Professor Ziad Nahas is the Ministry’s HMDP Visiting Expert in Psychiatry / Interventional Psychiatry. The HMDP Programme is scheduled for 27 March to 2 April 2026.
Prof. Ziad Nahas is a world-renowned psychiatrist and clinical researcher specializing in interventional psychiatry and neuromodulation. He currently serves as the Executive Vice Chair and Professor with Tenure in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Minnesota Medical School, where he also directs the Interventional Psychiatry Program and the MnDRIVE Neuromodulation Fellowship.
Areas of Expertise
With over 25 years of experience, Prof. Nahas is a pioneer in translating neuroscience into clinical treatments for treatment-resistant mood disorders. His clinical and research expertise includes:
Brain Stimulation Modalities: Extensive experience in Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS), Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS), and Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT).
Innovative Therapies: Lead investigator in developing Focally Electrically Administered Seizure Therapy (FEAST) and Epidural Prefrontal Cortical Stimulation (EpCS).
Neuroimaging: Utilizing interleaved TMS/fMRI to map brain circuits and understand the mechanisms of neuromodulation in depression and schizophrenia.
With his extensive and unique expertise in Mood Dysregulation and Depressive Disorders, Functional Neuroimaging and various brain stimulation techniques (TMS, VNS, PCS, DBS, ECT, FEAST), his visit to Singapore would greatly made significant contributions to the knowledge of expertise in the field of psychiatry and further advocacy for mental health.
