FY2025 HMDP VISITING EXPERT IN ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN DENTISTRY: PROF FALK SCHWENDICKE

Prof. Dr. Falk Schwendicke is the Director of the Clinic for Conservative Dentistry and Periodontology at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU Munich). A world-renowned expert in Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications in dentistry, he has been recognised in Stanford's Citation Ranking as one of the top 1% most cited researchers in dentistry since 2020. At the forefront of dental technology innovation, Professor Schwendicke pioneers the integration of artificial intelligence in clinical dentistry.

Since 2022, he has served as Convenor of ISO TC106 "AI in Dental Diagnostics," where he establishes international standards for AI applications. He chairs the FDI Artificial Intelligence Working Group and represents the WHO/ITU Focus Group AI4H on dental diagnostics, effectively bridging technological innovation with practical healthcare delivery. Professor Schwendicke's expertise in AI-driven dental innovations provides invaluable insights that elevate clinical practices through cutting-edge applications in diagnostics, treatment planning, and patient care.

Professor Schwendicke has also conducted extensive research on cariology, promoting the paradigm shift from removing lesions through drilling and filling to managing the disease holistically. His groundbreaking work has fundamentally shaped modern dental practice and evidence-based care.
