Visiting Expert in Systematic lifespan approach to developmental screening and mental health disorders in children
Prof Paul H. Lipkin is the Ministry of Health’s HMDP Visiting Expert in Systematic Lifespan Approach to Developmental Screening and Mental Health Disorders in Children. His HMDP Programme is scheduled for 10 February 2025 to 21 February 2025.
About the visit/HDMP expert
Prof. Paul Lipkin is a professor of pediatrics at Kennedy Krieger Institute and The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine Baltimore, USA. He provides clinical services in the Center for the Development of Learning at Kennedy Krieger Institute, treating children from birth to young adults with neurodevelopmental and behavioral disorders.
Dr. Lipkin has served as director of Kennedy Krieger’s medical outpatient services, its Center for Development and Learning, and the Interactive Autism Network. He has provided national leadership on children with special healthcare needs and disabilities, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other neurodevelopmental disorders, through his work with the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), where he served as chair of its Council on Children with Disabilities from 2002 to 2007. He was the recipient of its Arnold J. Capute Award in 2011 for his efforts on behalf of children with disabilities and recognition of his contributions to the field. He remains active in key AAP initiatives, including its guidelines on developmental and ASD screening, and on the implementation of the US Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). He was also a member of the 2022 collaborative AAP and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) developmental milestones revision.
Dr. Lipkin’s clinical and research careers have focused on the early identification, screening, evaluation and treatment of children and adolescents with developmental disabilities, including ASD and learning and attention disorders. He is currently focused and conducting research on suicide and safety in children with autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders as well as implementing developmental surveillance and screening in health care settings.
He is the Visiting Expert for the KKH Department of Child Development’s HDMP program on” Systematic Lifespan Approach to Developmental Screening and Mental Health Disorders in Children” to be held between Feb 10-21, 2025.
