A/Prof Chung-Wai Chow
Chung-Wai Chow is a Professor of Medicine and Division Director of Respirology at the University of Toronto. She holds Pettit Chair in Respiratory Medicine. She is a transplant respirologist and Clinician-Scientist at the University Health Network. She is cross-appointed to the Dalla Lana School of Public Health and the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering, University of Toronto.
She completed her MD and PhD at the University of Toronto in Adult Respiratory Medicine and Cell Biology, respectively before a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Max Planck Institute, Germany as an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow.
Her research is focused on the development of novel techniques to assess lung function using respiratory oscillometry and development of machine learning techniques to improve diagnostic acumen. She leads several large prospective studies that compare respiratory oscillometry with spirometry in different patient populations. Her research program is supported by grants from the CIHR, NSERC, NIH, and the Lung Health Foundation.
Ms Joyce Ka Yan Wu
Joyce Ka Yan Wu is a Registered Cardio-Pulmonary Technologist at Toronto General Hospital and Clinical Research Associate in the Division of Respirology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto. She is the Vice-President of the Canadian Association of Cardio-Pulmonary Technologists, an active member of pulmonary education committee and a Pulmonary Function Lab peer-assessor for Accreditation Canada. She is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) with years of experiences leading complex projects. She graduated with an HBSc at University of Toronto and holds Masters Certificate in Healthcare Management at York University Schulich School of Business.
Her major foci are in quality control and assurance standards in pulmonary function testing and the role of respiratory oscillometry in management of lung disease. Her work is published peer-reviewed journals that include ERJ Open Research, American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine BMJ Open Research and Respiratory Care. Her research is supported by the Canadian Lung Association, Canadian Institutes of Health Research and Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada.
