Professor Lee Kee-Joon is the Ministry of Health’s HMDP Visiting Expert in Breathing New Life into Orthodontics: Troubleshooting Orthodontics and Sleep Disordered Breathing. His HMDP Programme is scheduled for 20 January 2025 to 24 January 2025.
About the visit/HDMP expert
Dr. Kee-Joon Lee is a distinguished professor and orthodontist at Yonsei University College of Dentistry in Seoul, Korea, following his recent departure from deanship. With a strong educational foundation, having received his DDS and PhD degrees from Yonsei University, Dr. Lee has established himself as a leading expert in orthodontic biomechanics and clinical applications.
As a renowned lecturer, Dr. Lee has been invited to speak at numerous international conferences and has taught at several institutions worldwide. He has held adjunct professorships at the University of Pennsylvania and Temple University, and has served as a visiting scholar at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine and the Division of Plastic Surgery, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
Throughout his career, Dr. Lee has been dedicated to advancing the field of orthodontics through research, education, and clinical practice. His research focuses on clinical biomechanics of temporary anchorage devices (TADs) application and the responses of sutures and bones to orthodontic stimuli. He has also published extensively on treatments for non-eruption and total arch movement in patients with hyperdivergent faces. His contributions to orthodontic journals include two cover issues in AJO-DO. Additionally, Dr Lee serves as a reviewer for major orthodontic journals.
A prolific contributor to orthodontic literature, Dr Lee has authored numerous book chapters on advanced orthodontic techniques, including miniscrew-driven orthodontics, non-extraction treatments for adults, lingual orthodontics, and surgery-first approaches using temporary anchorage devices (TADs). His groundbreaking work on the miniscrew-assisted rapid palatal expander (MARPE) for adults, published in the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics (AJO-DO), has been widely cited in the field.
