Prof Thomas List is the Ministry of Health’s HMDP Visiting Expert in Temporomandibular Disorders and Orofacial Pain. His HMDP Programme is scheduled for 26 February to 1 March 2024.
About the visit/HMDP expert
Professor Thomas List, DDS, Odont.Dr/PhD is a well-known expert in the field of
temporomandibular disorder (TMD) and orofacial pain. He is the Professor and senior
consultant, and head of the orofacial pain unit at the Department of Orofacial Pain and Jaw Function, Faculty of Odontology at Malmö University, Sweden.
His research encompasses epidemiological studies of (TMD) in adults and adolescents;
clinical investigations into diagnosis and mechanisms of TMD and orofacial pain;
methodological studies for developing clinical tools to assess somatosensory changes,
functional and psychosocial impact of orofacial pain; intervention studies to evaluate the
pain-relieving effect of pharmacological, physical, biobehavioral and surgical therapies in orofacial pain. He has published more than 180 articles or book chapters and serves as an expert on several international and national research committees.
His research highlights the multifaceted nature of orofacial pain and TMD and underscores the importance of comprehensive diagnostic criteria, effective treatment options, and psychosocial support. By addressing these aspects, healthcare providers can enhance the quality of life for individuals suffering from orofacial pain disorders.
