Prof Timothy B. Curry is the Ministry's HMDP Visiting Expert in Pharmacogenomics. His HMDP Programme is scheduled for 18 September to 22 September 2023.
About the visit/HMDP expert
Timothy B. Curry, M.D., Ph.D., is a professor, consultant. and vice chair of practice in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, with a joint appointment in the Department of Physiology and Biomedical Engineering. He is the Center of Individualized Medicine’s associate director of clinical implementation and is the William O. Lund, Jr. and Natalie C. Lund Program Director for Clinomics.
Dr. Curry earned his B.A. in molecular biology and biochemistry from Middlebury College. Middlebury, Vermont, and his M.D. and Ph.D. in physiology and biophysics from the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, University at Buffalo, State University of New York. He performed his residency in anesthesiology at Mayo Clinic and joined the staff of Mayo Clinic in 2005. Dr. Curry’s clinical focus is perioperative medicine and thoracic and orthopedic surgery. He is the chair of the Mayo Clinic anesthesia clinical practice committee, the vice chair of the surgical and procedural committee, and the vice chair of the operations coordinating group.
Dr. Curry’s current research is focused on implementation of genomic medicine, genomic education, and clinical practice improvement. His work has been funded by the Department of Defense and the National Institutes of Health, among others. He is frequently invited to give presentations on his research both nationally and internationally and has authored numerous journal articles, abstracts and book chapters. He serves on the Mayo Clinic Proceedings editorial board and holds reviewer responsibilities for prominent scientific publications.
Dr. Curry has received the Mayo Clinic School of Graduate Medical Education’s Mayo Brothers Distinguished Fellowship award, the Mayo Clinic Excellence in Leadership Award, and the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine Distinguished Clinician Award. His professional memberships include the American College of Medical Genetics, the American Physiological Society, the American Society of Anesthesiology, and the International Anesthesia Research Society.
