Visiting Expert in paediatric palliative care
Professor Jenny Hynson is the Ministry's HMDP Visiting Expert in Paediatric Palliative Care. Her HMDP Programme is scheduled for 23 May 2023 and from 29 May 2023 to 1 June 2023.
About the visit/HMDP expert
Dr Jenny has dedicated more than 20 years of her career as a consultant paediatrician to establishing, growing and researching the fields of paediatric palliative care. Her passion inspired her to complete a PhD in paediatric palliative care. She is well respected with International recognition as a contributor to major texts and peer-reviewed journal articles.
She has established one of the busiest paediatric palliative care services in Australia, leading a highly motivated and effective multi-disciplinary team. She is actively involved in the Palliative Medicine Training Committee of Royal Australian College of Physicians Chapter. She has also fostered strong collaborative relationships with paediatric palliative care colleagues at both national and international levels.
She contributed to the development of policies that have embedded appropriate strategic imperatives and operational frameworks, which has led to the continued funding growth. This has enabled the Program to develop and grow. She maintains a strong collaborative relationship with the Department of Health and Human Services.
Besides her deep commitment to paediatric palliative care, Dr Jenny also has a sophisticated understanding of and strong links to the adult palliative care sector in Victoria. She has contributed to the development of an internationally recognised and awarded bioethics centre at the RCH.
She has been honoured with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians Chapter of Palliative Medicine Award for Outstanding Contribution by a Fellow to the Discipline of Palliative Medicine 2021. She also awarded the Royal Children’s Hospital CEO Award for Great Care (Excellent Clinical Outcomes) 2014.
