Professor Tracey Bucknall is the Ministry's HMDP Visiting Expert in Nursing Research. Her HMDP Programme is scheduled for 30 Oct - 03 Nov 2023.
About the visit/HMDP expert
Professor Tracey Bucknall is an Alfred Deakin Professor, in the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Deakin University, with a joint appointment as the Director of Nursing Research and Foundational Chair in Nursing at Alfred Health. She is also Co-Director of the Centre for Quality and Patient Safety Research at the Institute for Health Transformation, Deakin University providing leadership to over 100 researchers. In addition to her role as a clinical academic, Professor Tracey is also the Chair of Quality and Safety at Royal Freemasons Aged Care, a not-for-profit Aged Care provider with more than 3000 customers in Residential Aged Care, Retirement Living, and Home Care Services. Professor Tracey’s research interests are in improving quality and safety and enabling person-centred care in health, using innovative digital technologies and system-wide implementation research to drive change and reduce preventable harm for consumers.
As a decision scientist and knowledge translation expert in health care, Professor Tracey has received over $22 million in continuous research funding from National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), Australian Research Council (ARC), National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR), Australian Commission for Safety and Quality in Health Care (ACSQHC), private, professional and academic organisations. She has authored more than 250 scholarly publications, published 13 book chapters and 15 editorials for top international nursing journals. With more than 10,000 citations (h-index 57, i-10 138), Professor Tracey’s field-weighted views impact was 8.62 for delivery of health care in SciVal and 55.9% of her publications are in the top 10% of journals by CiteScore. In 2019, Professor Tracey was inducted into the Sigma International Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame for her international contribution to nursing research.
