Professor Tom Wainwright is the Ministry of Health’s HMDP Visiting Expert in Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) in Orthopaedics. His HMDP Programme is scheduled for 8 to 12 January 2024.
About the visit/HDMP expert
Tom Wainwright is Professor in Orthopaedics and Deputy Head of the Orthopaedic Research Institute at Bournemouth University, United Kingdom, and a clinical researcher in Orthopaedics at University Hospitals Dorset NHG Foundation Trust. He is a world renowned clinical academic and quality improvement specialist, who is internationally recognized for his work on ERAS protocols. He is ranked in the Top 10 Global experts and led the production of the ERAS Society Hip and Knee Guidelines.
A physiotherapist by training, Professor Wainwright specialized in Orthopaedic physiotherapy and subsequently moved into clinical research, with extensive experience in large-scale randomized controlled trials in Orthopaedics. He has numerous publications in peer reviewed journals with more than 2400 citations to date and has secured over £2.5M in research grants in the field of ERAS and Orthopaedics.
Professor Wainwright is passionate about quality improvement and is actively involved in collaboration with international partners to improve patient care and outcomes. He is currently also a consultant with Healthdecoded Ltd, a clinically focused management consultancy company which he founded in 2009. In 2010, he was awarded Young Consultant of the Year by The Institute of Consulting.
