Visiting Expert in development coordination disorder
Dr Jill Zwicker is the Ministry of Health’s HMDP Visiting Expert in Development Coordination Disorder. Her HMDP Programme is scheduled for 15 to 23 January 2024.
About the visit/HMDP expert
Dr. Jill Zwicker holds a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Pediatric Brain Development and Rehabilitation and is a Professor in the Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy at the University of British Columbia. She also holds appointments as Associate Member in the Department of Pediatrics (Division of Developmental Pediatrics), Investigator at BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute, and Associate Member at CanChild Centre for Childhood Disability Research. She has 30+ years of clinical experience as an occupational therapist and is an internationally recognized expert in Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD). Dr. Zwicker’s research program aims to better understand potential causes of DCD, to evaluate the effect of rehabilitation on motor skill and brain development, and to inform evidence-based care to improve outcomes for children with DCD. Dr. Zwicker is also interested in the relationship of prematurity and DCD and is examining early brain development and motor outcomes of premature newborns.
