Dr Nicholas Smedira is the Ministry's HMDP Visiting Expert in Cardiothoracic Surgery – Multidisciplinary Management of hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM). His HMDP Programme is scheduled for 30 Oct - 03 Nov 2023.
About the visit/HMDP expert
Dr Nicholas Smedira is a world-renowned expert in the field of Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM). He is an innovator in the surgical techniques used for the treatment of patients with HCM, such as papillary muscle re-orientation, and the surgical ablation of atrial fibrillation in patients with HCM. He is the Surgical Director of the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Center, Cleveland Clinic Foundation, USA.
Dr Smedira served as a member of the Writing Committee for the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association Guideline for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. He also serves as Professor of Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University.
